Synagogue

The biggest synagogue of Transdanubia was designed in the middle of the 19th century by famous architects (Frigyes Feszl, Károly Gerster, Lipót Kauser).
The style of the building is romantic-historicist. The inner parts are rich in ornaments and as a specialty it has a storeyed gallery. On the Torah reading table you can see the „Book of Tears” with the names of 3022 martyrs, who lost their lives in Auschwitz and in other camps.
The organ of the Synagogue was made in 1867 as the first product of the famous Angster Organ Factory in Pécs. It contains 1534 organ-pipes.
